Winter 2019 Round Up
Hey all!
I’ve been working on a wide range of projects the last few months, most of which will receive some closer coverage here on my blog and over on my Patreon a bit down the line as their various publications get closer… But I thought that I’d do a quick little round up just to keep y’all up to date on my comings and goings this Winter!
Cayrel’s Ring #3
I completed the art for an eight-page story for Shannon Lentz’s wild sci-fi anthology, Cayrel’s Ring. Like all the tales in the series, this one is written by Shannon and features characters and locations that were glimpsed in other stories in the book. Really really fun project. I’ll be writing a full Process Post online when the book becomes available in stores and on Comixology just a bit later this year.
Ligne Editorial #3
I also just completed four-page “book report” style comic for Éditions Pow Pow, the publisher of the French edition of TITAN. In this short comic I discussed my love of Alexandre Simard and Luc Bossé’s Yvesduology (the first volume of which is already available in English as Gary: King of the Pickup Artists). I’ll probably translate this strip into English and post it up here as well.
Palace of Memories
I’m just about to submit my application for a grant to work on my next graphic novel, a sci-fi/fantasy tale that’s an evolution/reimagining of “Memento Mori,” a series I started waaay back in the days of my ELFWORLD anthology… Anyways, there have been a LOT of changes over time but I think this is going to be a very cool book! You can expect plenty of updates on Palace of Memories over the coming TWO YEARS—the plan is to start work in earnest this summer/fall and complete it by fall 2020, with a release in French (from Éditions Pow Pow) in the Spring of 2021, and an English-language version sometime thereafter.
Pineapple Security
I also wrapped up another comic for my friends over at Area 1, exploring the continuing misadventures of the anti-hacker team at Pineapple Security. This one was a lot of fun… I’ll be sure to share more in a bit.
Nuit Blanche T-Shirts & Live Drawing
I was invited by the folks at the Société des Arts Technologique to participate in their Nuit Blanche celebrations this year (for those of you who don’t know, Nuit Blanche is a very fun, all-night, city-wide arts event here in Montréal). I created three T-shirt designs that were available to print on-demand at the event, and which I’ll put on Society 6 soonish so the whole world can have at ’em, haha! I did some live sketching as well… Here’s a piece that ended up in the hands of one of the visitors:
New House & New Workspace
In addition to the above mentioned stuff, and lost of client work that I’ll share some of down the road (including some fun packaging design and a big lettering project), I have a BIG new project that occupies a LOT of my time… My partner and I bought a condo together in the Hochelaga-Maisoneuve neighborhood of Montréal! Pretty wild, I’ve never tackled a project of this size before. We have been doing non-stop DIY renovations to the place for the last three months, I’m considering posting some updates from that here on the blog (comment below if you like and/or hate the idea).
One small but satisfying part of the process was creating a new workspace for myself… We initially thought about building something into a closet, but when my partner found this lovely roll top desk by Swedish midcentury designer Egon Østergaard on sale for a steal on Kijiji we jumped on it (I had fallen in love with the design earlier, but had only seen it for more than twice the price we eventually got it for). Anyways, this is my new little desk set up! It’s on the small side but is quite comfy, with my laptop at a good height. This is where the magic happens!
See Ya Soon!
I’ll leave it there for now, just a quick little overview. As I mentioned, I’ll be coming back to most of these creative projects (and perhaps the house stuff too, if people are interested) in the coming weeks and months, along with brand new projects as well. Feel free to leave any questions below and all my thanks for your interest and support!
