About

François Vigneault is an American-born cartoonist living in Québec. He is the creator of the sci-fi graphic novel TITAN (Oni Press, 2020/Éditions Pow Pow, 2017), the co-creator of the YA series 13e Avenue (Éditions de la Pastèque, 2018) and the artist for the monthly comic book series Orcs in Space, published by Oni Press (2021-22). His relatively small body of work has been nominated for a surprising number of awards (and has even won a few of them). He is also the co-host of the podcast Apples to Giraffes.

His sci-fi graphic novel TITAN (Oni Press, 2020) was originally published in French by Éditions Pow Pow in 2017 and has been called “a fast-moving page-turner… a complex, visceral, even chilling exploration of the ways our identities, and our very humanity, are enmeshed with the larger political landscapes in which we find ourselves.” (Quill & Quire, Starred Review). TITAN has been nominated for multiple prizes, including the Prix Des Libraries Québec and the Joe Shuster Award for Best Cartoonist.

His latest project is illustrating the comic book series Orcs in Space from Oni Press, co-created and written by Abed Gheith, Rashad Gheith, and Michael Tanner, with colors by DJ Chavis and Dave Pender.

He is also the co-creator of 13e Avenue , a YA comic book series created with Geneviève Pettersen and published by Éditions de la Pastèque. The first volume won the inaugural Prix Des Libraries Québec award for best youth graphic novel, along with prizes at the Trois Rivieres and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Book Festivals, and has been nominated for many others, including the Prix des Collèges at the 2020 Angoulême Comics Festival.

His illustrations and comics have appeared in publications such as The Portland Mercury, Feathertale Review, Maisonneuve, The California Sunday, the MonitorTHISKayak, and Papercutter. Clients include New York Review Comics; Drawn & Quarterly; Area 1 Security; Scout Books; Floating World Comics; Uber; Reed College; Bedford, Freeman, & Martin; and many others.
