About

François Vigneault is an American-born cartoonist and illustrator living in Québec. His wide-ranging creative practice also encompasses book design, lettering, translation, publishing, curation, and festival organization. He is notably the creator of the science-fiction graphic novel TITAN (Oni Press, 2020/Éditions Pow Pow, 2017) and the illustrator of books including Le Gâteau empoisonné by André Marois (Éditions de la Pastèque, 2025) and Extraordinary Eyeglasses by Caroline Stevan (Helvetiq). His work has been nominated for numerous awards—and has even won a few of them.

His graphic novel TITAN was first published in French by Éditions Pow Pow in 2017 and subsequently released in English by Oni Press in 2020. Quill & Quire, in a starred review, called it “a fast-moving page-turner” and “a complex, visceral, even chilling exploration of the ways our identities, and our very humanity, are enmeshed with the larger political landscapes in which we find ourselves.” TITAN has been nominated for several honours, including the Prix des libraires du Québec and the Joe Shuster Award for Outstanding Cartoonist.

He also illustrated the science-fiction comedy Orcs in Space, written by Abed Gheith, Rashad Gheith, and Michael Tanner (Oni Press, 2021–2022), and the French-language YA graphic novel 13e Avenue, created with writer Geneviève Pettersen and published by Éditions de la Pastèque. 13e Avenue received the inaugural Prix des libraires du Québec for best youth graphic novel in 2019, along with awards at the Trois-Rivières and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean book festivals.

François’s short comics and illustrations have appeared in anthologies and publications including NOW (Fantagraphics), BARADA & NIKTO (RAID Studio), XINO (Oni Press), PLANCHES, The Feathertale Review, The Portland Mercury, Maisonneuve, The California Sunday Magazine, The Monitor, THIS Magazine, Kayak, and Papercutter.

As a graphic designer and letterer specializing in comics and illustrated books, François has worked with publishers including TOON Books, Hippo Park, Floating World Comics, Drawn & Quarterly, New York Review Comics, and Oni Press. Recent book-design projects include Pepper by Karl Stevens, The Fire-Breathing Duckling by Frank Cammuso, Jake Spooky Volumes 1 and 2 by Michael Grover, Calamity Before Jane by Noah Van Sciver, and Dog Days by Claudia Boldt, as well as Tadao Tsuge’s Boat Life Volumes 1 and 2 and the three-volume Buzzelli Collected Works.

As a translator, François works on French-language comics being brought to English-language readers. His translations include The Jellyfish King by Brecht Evens (co-translated with the author; Drawn & Quarterly, 2026), three volumes of Sourya’s Talli, Daughter of the Moon, and Boulet’s Notes: Back in Time (Oni Press).

François is the Marketing Manager for Pow Pow Press, the English-language imprint of Montréal’s Éditions Pow Pow, where he works to bring Québec comics to readers across Canada, the United States, and beyond. He is also the curator of Confluence: The World(s) of Québec Comics and the founder and organizer of La Fête du livre Saint-Adolphe, an annual literary festival held in the village of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, Québec.

Born in the United States to immigrant parents, François has lived and worked in Québec since 2015.
