David Heatley’s Self-Censorship

When I happened on a copy of David Heatley’s new collection/graphic novel My Brain is Hanging Upside Down, I was a bit taken a back to see his work on the bookshelf… it’s a fairly large, dust jacketed hardcover from Pantheon Books. I really like Heatley’s work, it is wonderfully straight-forward and filled with a deep sense of the humane, and his sometimes “crude” illustration style masks a complicated design sense… But I have to admit that his comics don’t feel right in a lux format like this book.
