Reader Reviews are Rolling In

Ahh… Just relaxing in a (very real and not fake) sunny nook with my morning coffee and comic.

It’s been really fun the last month or so as the early reader reviews of TITAN have been coming in on Goodreads and NetGalley. Don’t forget that the ARCs of TITAN is still available for download on several of the big galley sites: Here it is on NetGalley and here it is on Edelweiss.plus. Your honest rating or review of the book on a site like NetGalley and/or Goodreads can make a huge difference in attracting my book to new potential readers. I’m also just genuinely interested what people have to say about this book.

If you have any difficulty in downloading the ARC don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly, I’ll send it to you directly.

I’ve clipped some extracts from reader reviews below that I appreciated for one reason or another: some positive, some negative,  some insightful, some critical, some really sweet, and others just plain funny!

“As impressive as Vigneault’s art is it matched by his plotting and dialogue. The story is gripping and to its credit took off in a direction that I found unexpected. Everybody loves a plot twist… I thought TITAN was brilliant. A shining example of a sci-fi story exploring the way humans treat each other. It is one of those books that make you want to read the creators other works and look forward to their future stories. Highly recommended.”

“I wasn’t expecting a labour dispute on a distant future Titan to feel topical, but I was wrong. This graphic novel felt like an allegory of this strange time we’re living through as racial inequality and systemic violence reach a breaking point.”

—Lauren, Cook’s Books

“Whilst I think Vigneault is at pains to try and show that the system of exploitation and human nature is the actual evil here, having a couple of instigating baddies – whilst great for storytelling – undermines the actual anti-capitalist argument (it would have worked fine if these guys hadn’t whipped up trouble). The book does claw it back in its epilogue a touch, but I don’t think the morality of the piece is as clear as it might be.”

— Peter B.

“While there are no massive new insights, the plot layers and story action clearly show the complex and complicated lives of actors in momentous times. It doesn’t have a ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy’ per-se, and the very messy way things happen in life is portrayed with enough drive and action to keep you reading.  The colour palate  is very sparse, and the style of drawing really emphasizes the ‘ugliness’ and reality of living, fighting, warring, loving, plotting and betraying.”

—Ayesha G.

“The art style is absolutely beautiful. However, some of the color selections made it hard to read at times so I found myself struggling to keep track of how the story was developing.”

—Mallory P.

“I really enjoyed the art style of this Graphic Novel…I loved the black, white and pink colour scheme. In regards to the plot I found [it] entertaining but I didn’t find it groundbreaking.”

—Bookish Harrie

“To get the negatives out of the way: this graphic novel felt a little short, given the scope of what it was trying to cover, was occasionally unsatisfying, and felt overly predictable at times, though one could argue that that was intentional. Overall, though, I found it to be a solid read. It had an interesting premise, characters I was able to become invested in, and did not shy away from the nuance and shades of gray that are bound to come up when dealing with complicated ideas of systems of power, exploitation, and colonialism.”

—Rowen H.

“Narratives like this are so common and used with such a variety of validity that I’ve began to grow tired of them. I appreciate the author’s commitment to portraying a plausible story of exploitation but was ultimately disappointed by its telling and conclusion. I admired Da Silva’s and Phoebe’s brutal optimism as they attempted to heal their communities. However, in the end, little is gained from the Titans’ revolt, and our protagonists settle into accepting they do not possess the power to change the oppressive systems contributing to mass abuse and tragedy. This soured my respect for their characters, though it may have been the most realistic finale to their adventure.”

—Murphy R.

“A strong book, but not a flawless one… there is also quite a lot of good – a really satisfying story arc, a great bit of world-building that negates some of the two-sided, simplistic antagonism of much of the plot, and likeable, if broadly drawn, characters… Any people who dislike sci-fi will think it’s trash, but it’s well worth a look for genre fans.”

“Titan is a stunning story of politics, war, betrayal, and love.  The coloring and illustrations are beautiful and really compliment the story.  I can’t wait to get my hands on a print copy!”

—Amber U.

“Really sweet read, some bad words and blood and guns, but also quite cool!”

“This was a rough and tumble ride of a graphic novel… Stories make you feel certain ways and at this time it wasn’t how I wanted to feel.”

—  Corissa D.

“Phoebe is my new space girlfriend and I must protect her forever. ”

—Giovanna C.

“I also loved the two main characters, João and Titan Phoebe. Their dynamic was great, and them bonding over records melted my heart. Be warned though that this is for sure an adult graphic novel, with sex scenes and graphic violence.

—Kathryn G

.”I applaud the author for telling an interesting story and for showing a rather asymmetrical relationship without any fuss or judgment. It was entertaining and a fun read.”

—Ian W.

“Sadly, this wasn’t my cup of tea. It’s an interesting look at colonialism through a sci-fi story, but the author seems to assume that you understand this world and from the beginning doesn’t offer any explanation.”

— Radwa

“The art style in this graphic novel is stunning, and initially reminded me heavily of On a Moonbeam, especially with the space theme.”

—Felix A.

“I liked the concept behind this a lot, but it lost me somewhere in execution. The art is excellent, but the dialogue was too much and overwhelmed the page. There was so much going on that it was hard to read, with a lot of visuals and a lot of words crammed into each page, and right at the start there was so much exposition that it made me immediately weary. Graphic novels should show, not tell, and this just didn’t do that for me. ”

— El E.

“I should’ve known this wouldn’t be for me when I saw the art style. The limited colour palette was an interesting choice, but it didn’t make it easy to read. The world could’ve been fleshed out more, and I wasn’t invested in the story. I did like the setting, though.”

—Marcy T.

“I have no way of saving or even downloading this title to my device. Based on the description of this title it truly looked great and interesting I am just unable to download this title to my device. One star.
